Type Locality and Naming

The type section is located at Shuweimenke, Dulan County, Qinghai Province. It was named by the Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources of Qinghai Province in 1991. Lower formation in Buqingshan Gr.


Lithology and Thickness

Limestone. Composed of dark-grey and rosy medium- and thick-bedded to massive bioclastic rocks. Thickness is 226 m.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Conformable or an unconformable contact with the underlying granitic mass or clastic rocks

Upper contact

Conformable contact with the overlying Maerzheng Fm.

Regional extent

Distributed in the Bayankara Mt. and is exposed in the form of scattered fault blocks.

Fossils

Yields Fusulinids represented by the Misellina-Parafusulina assemblage. In the Harguole area of the Buqing Mt. the formation yields Ammonoids such as Popanoceras sp., Artinskia sp., westward to the Nanshan Mt. of the Xueshui River it yields such Fusulinids as Staffella cf. moellerana; to the west of the Lihai Sea (Kunlun Lake) it yields such Fusulinids as Pseudofusulina sp., Parafusulina yabeicurta, Ammonoids such as Agathiceras, Foraminifera represented by Globivalvulina bulloides, Cribrogenerina prospaerica, Nodosaria sp., Climacammina sp., as well as corals and bivalves fossils.
